08/09/2011Introducing exciting new Plumbing and HVAC pre-apprentice pilot program in collaboration with the Santa Fe Community College's Economic and Workforce Development Department.
Santa Fe Youthworks and the Santa Fe Community College are collaborating to create a unique opportunity for Santa Fe youth interested in obtaining technical training and experience in Plumbing and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) during a semester long certification course at SFCC. In partnership with local employers and professionals, this program aims to provide an innovative, high quality pathway to journeyman level training for local young people.
Beginning in the fall of this year, the program aims to enroll eight young people on full scholarships in the full-time Plumbing or HVAC certification programs at SFCC while also providing paid part-time internships at local businesses and other support and tutoring services.
YouthWorks is seeking potential employers interested in housing one to two interns at their business for up to 3 months. The interns will be paid by the program, at no cost to the employer. Employers will be asked to attend 2 to 3 meetings over the course of the semester.
As partners in this program, participating businesses will be an integral part of all publicity and marketing aspects of the project, and will be included in many opportunities for participation in further opportunities for promotion and recognition of service and commitment to community improvement.
A program launch is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, August 10 at the Santa Fe Community College at 10:30 in Room 820. Official program activities will begin August 22.

YouthWorks Hosts School Supply Drive For Needy Families!!!!
07/29/2011This week, our community lost “Faith At Work” – a non-profit that provided school clothing, and school supplies, among many other necessities. They annually filled backpacks for approximately 200 students in the public schools. Our school district statistics tell us that 74% of our children need Free or Reduced Price Lunch – this is dramatic increase from last year. So more families than ever are needing this assistance.
¡Youthworks! Has volunteered to sponsor a school supply drive for needy families!!!! Can you help with this effort? Please ask your employees to provide school supplies for families that need help. Please take any donations of school supplies to ¡Youthworks! for sorting and distribution.
¡Youthworks! entrance is next to Que Suave Radio Station parking lot on Taos street accessible from Cerrillos Rd. Please use the list below to figure out what donations are needed. Thanks in advance for your help with this effort. School begins on August 15th, so this is a really short turnaround.
If you need more information, please call YouthWorks. (505)-989-1855
