Chris Aguayo Memorial Scholarship

On Friday September 3, Sam’s Club will be presenting YouthWorks with a check for $1,000 in memory of Chris Aguayo, to support his goals and dreams of finishing his education and finding a stable career in Santa Fe. On July 8, Chris Aguayo (18) was shot and killed at Santa Fe Place Mall. Chris had been a beloved participant of YouthWorks for over three years as both a student and a member of YouthWorks’ City of Santa Fe River Restoration Crew. At the time of his death, he was successfully employed at Sam’s Club and was making tremendous strides towards finishing his education at YouthWorks. Chris was an important member of YouthWorks and always served as a positive role model and leader for his peers. YouthWorks is honored to receive this gift in Chris’ name to support programs and services for youth in Santa Fe who share the spirit and dedication that this young man had shown in the last years of his life. YouthWorks has also received a commitment from a private donor of $250 per year in perpetuity to start a GED Scholarship Program in his name. YouthWorks will continue pursuing private donations to establish this scholarship fund for local youth who exemplify Chris’ spirit and drive for improving their lives and uplifting their community. The check will be presented on Friday September 3 at 9:30 at Sam’s Club, 4201 West Rodeo Road.
